This past weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to take The Bridal Society’s Wedding Certification Course in Orlando, which means I can now say I am a “Certified Wedding Planner.” Wahoo! The course’s instructer, Laurie Hartwell, taught us so much valuable information from formal wear for your man, to dealing with your ring bearer running down the aisle at top speeds (let’s just take a step back and assume that this will happen if you choose to have a 2 year old have ample space to jet down a freeway holding a pillow).
But “why do I need a planner to help with one of the most important days of my life” you may ask? Well… here are only a couple of the millions of reasons…
- There are these people called vendors that can make your day be the best there ever was, or who could quite possibly ruin the whole atmosphere of your wedding and make it the most stressful day of your life. This is why I have a Preferred Vendors List in which I have hand-selected my favorite vendors to work with. Not only do I select the best of the best to work with, but I deal with negotiating a price, scheduling meetings, and reviewing vendor’s contracts with you.
- A wedding planner is also the couple’s representative and liaison when it comes to dealing with the bridal party and family. You may not feel like delegating which girls stand closest to you during the ceremony… but it becomes a lot less awkward when you let everyone know where they are standing through someone else. It is also less awkward when you don’t particularly like the flowers your grandma picked out for you, but you also don’t want her to be appalled that you don’t want Bleeding-Heart flowers for your Bridal Bouquet (not that I have anything against these flowers…).
- I can help make your style/theme cohesive and on point… even within your budget, because although you may not have time to, my full time job is your wedding. Not only that, but I make sure everything is done in a timely fashion.
- Because the last thing that you want to do on your wedding day is to be telling people where they need to be every 17 minutes. You need someone to take over for you, letting Uncle Joe know that yes in fact his table number is 9, and no he cannot set up a twelfth chair at table number 3 just because it is closer to the buffet.
There are so many more reasons why having a wedding planner is vital… Check back this weekend for another post!
